We Are Our Own Enemies
Watched District 9 last night.
I am totally spellbound by it. The trailer seemed interesting enough. But i never expected it to have such a trenchant portrayal of mankind, while at the same time brilliantly managing to balance both action and pathos. Credit must go to director Neill Blomkamp for choosing to depict the film as a sort of faux documentary; the first third of the film, if seen on the news, could easily have been mistaken as a news telecast of real events.
Thinly-veiled connotations of apartheid and corruption, portrayed in the form of aliens being exploited and abused, also forces the audience (albeit subconsciously) to think about the ugly side of human nature.
Go watch. Please be 18 though, as there are some gory scenes.
