Poker
Sometimes i think life is like a poker game.
You're dealt a hand which you have no way of influencing or changing.
What do you do next?
Do you (a)stick to the status quo and see what happens (in poker terms, call or check) (b)raise the stakes (c)fold?
Each action has its own repercussion.
By calling or checking, you run the risk of missing out on something extraordinary. Calling simply means leaving your fate to the other players. Playing it safe, some people might call it.
By raising, it means you're willing to take a chance. You might not have the best hand, but you've sent out a clear message that you mean business. Or perhaps you're just bluffing? But the point is that you've stood up for what you want and taken an aggressive stance towards achieving it.
Folding... ahh... the least attractive yet sometimes necessary course of action to take. Folding implies that you've decided to forego your opportunity for the 'win'. Letting go, giving up. For one reason or another. As stated, its often the hardest thing to do, especially when there might be the slightest chance that the cards in your hand can turn out to be favourable after all.
Of course, you could decide not to participate in the 'poker' game.
But then, that wouldnt be life now wouldnt it?
