Olympic
As i write this, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is drawing to a close.
Very soon, the Olympic flame would have been extinguished, waiting patiently to be lighted again in 4 years time in London.
Tears have been shed, either for joy or because of heartbreak. Singapore got its first olympic medal in 48 years, and the whole country celebrated the efforts of our paddlers; China's Liu Xiang, falling prey to the bane of all sportsmen, injury, wept as his Olympic gold medal hopes could now only be fulfilled at the next games. Such is the unpredictable yet sublime nature of sport.
The games also produced two of the greatest Olympians in history: Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps
"The Lightning-Bolt": 3 golds in track & field and 3 world records

Michael Phelps: 8 golds and 7 world records for swimming
Wars have been forgotten; nationality has been cast aside; politics have been relegated to the sidelines. "One World One Dream" - this tagline embodies the values of the Olympic spirit: Unity, Friendship, Progress, Harmony, Participation and Dream. Russia and Georgia, Israel and Palestine, Iraq and America - adversaries in the global arena, yet competing against each other on friendly terms at the Games. The world, at least for the period of 16 days, have been united under one banner of hope - sporting excellence.
We can only hope that the ties formed between countries in the spirit of the Olympics will be strengthened and not forgotten.
