Resilience

We had a talk on resilience today during civics. I really enjoyed listening to the speaker, Glenn Lim. He speaks really well and possesses an enviable quality of charisma. And he's funny too. He spoke about his turbulent past (he was an ex-drug-abuser); ultimately delivering his message about the importance of resilience and strength of character in life.

His message struck deep within me. Sometimes in life, we are faced with adversity and seemingly unscalable mountains of problems. It is how we react to these situations which determine our future. Mistakes only serve to perpetuate our humanity. It is the ability to 'strike back' which separates the great from the mediocre.

Quote from Batman Begins:
"But it's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you."

A bit out of context, but the second part of the quote is worth some thought. What we do defines us..
